First pepper of the year

001

It has been slow to warm up this year but finally getting some warm enough nights to bring my peppers outside for a little while.  Though they were flowering in the grow box I was surprised to see a sweet yellow pepper already growing.  This is definitely a record for me by at least a good month.

Nice looking pepper! Ours haven’t even flowered yet.

I switch my indoor lights to flower before my garden goes outside. It’s a trick to get produce really early. It looks like you used that method successfully!

I only use CFLs which should be pretty blue, I have tried this in the past but normally pulled them out when it was probably too cold and the blossoms just dropped. Though the plants could use a a little more vegetative growth hopefully the plants can sustain the fruit…

I agree with Red Icculus, it seems like you did a great job in executing the method successfully by making those pepper plants bear fruit sooner than expected. And by the progress that your pepper plants are showing, I think it won’t be long enough until you could see more pepper fruits to sprout. Please keep us posted on that. Thanks for sharing this wonderful endeavor to your readers 🙂

It’s funny, I think people overestimate spectrum for flowering. I used a metal halide in my hydro tent for a couple years for flowering. Plants yielded great. The only difference that I noticed was that plants stretched more under high pressure sodium without a huge gain in yield.

Hydro Gardening, I will be sure to keep everyone updated.

Red, I am also curious how much the spectrum really effects it. My experience is hours of light and temperature can affect flowering much more.
