Life in the growbox

image

Right about now the temperatures outside should be increasing and I should be thinking about start hardening off my summer plants over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately we seeing hail the past few days along with some pretty cold nights.  Looks like even though I was fairly pessimistic about my last frost date I may have another battle of tomatoes/peppers over taking the growbox or bring them out into the elements a little too early…

To make a little room I did move my herbs (oregano/parsley) out to the cold frame with the basil struggling to survive in the growbox I will give it a little time to bounce back.

That hail storm we had was very interesting, especially since it was 45°F outside during the storm.

For my peppers I have been taking them out to the greenhouse during the day and then back into the house at night. If I ever add a heater to the greenhouse I might actually keep them out there.

We had a freak cold snap and I had all my bhut jolokia plants outside while I was on vacation. They are hardy little plants.

It looks like you have a little jungle in there!

DavidS, been tempted to move them out to my cold frame though they will survive colder temperatures exposure to temps in the 40-50 range can reall stunt their growth, but how they are growing now maybe I need to do that 🙂

Red, My I have had problems getting my bhut jolokia seeds to geminate though think their slow germination and my lack of attention to watering is probably the cause. I should try again with the seeds in a more common area in my house though might be getting too late now.

It’s never too late! I only ate 2 of them last year and used the rest that I didn’t sell for hot pickled eggs. Needless to say, a few of them go a long way.

The spring weather whre we are has been crazy as well. One day it’s barely 40 deg and pouring rain, the next it’s 85 and sunny. I’m feeling itchy to get in the garden now though.
