Using used coffee grounds in your garden/compost
I have wanted to leverage used coffee grounds in my garden/compost but not being a coffee drinker myself I never seemed to be able to have the right timing to find any at local coffee shops. Recently a colleague taunted me with a picture from his cell phone of a few bags in the coffee shop in our cafeteria at work and my quest began. After just two days…
Vermicomposting – How to take care of your worms
Your worms need 6 things to stay healthy: temperature, food, moisture, airflow, bedding, and darkness. Temperature: Your worms need to be stored between 55 and 77 degree. During the hot days of summer you should keep your worm bin in the shade and during winter you should keep it indoors or in your garage. Food: Worms are vegetarians so any garden waste you normally would add to your compost…
My Lettuce seeds have sprouted
My lettuce seeds sprouted faster than usual this year, I expected to have some problems since I have saved the seeds for 3 years now. I don’t have a heating pad (yeah I’m cheap) so just put them on top of the refrigerator in a makeshift greenhouse out of an old strawberry container. They would have still germinated in my mid-60 degree house, but the extra heat gained from…

How to save Bhut Jolokia peppers seeds
I was lucky enough to win some Bhut Jolokia pepper seeds from Red Icculus. In case you haven’t heard of these they are the hottest peppers on earth having a heat rating of over 1 million scoville units. Just to put that into comparison jalapenos are around 5000 scoville units. One property of this pepper is the way the heat builds after consumption, on first bite it is spicy…

A double rainbow! maybe you’ll find a pot of gold somewhere in your garden, just keep digging!
I was hoping that might mean there are two pots of gold at the end. But the science part of my brains keeps saying “That is caused due to the light refracting on the droplets of water vapor in the air”
That is a cool rainbow! And we get enough rain to see a lot of them! Thanks for the fave on blotanist!
