My daughters and I started a butterfly garden a couple of years ago, though we have seen a few butterflies pass by this was the first time we have been able to capture one on camera. This butterfly was visiting our butterfly bush, which for by many standards is basically a noxious weed. But it doesn’t need much water, makes pretty flowers, and butterflies/bees like it so seems like…
Currently in the grow box I have some basil and more recently strawberries added as I was “weeding” my garden I found a bunch more starts. Though I have seen basil do well in hydroponic systems mine is turning pretty leggy and quickly loosing lower leaves. The strawberries on the other hand and thriving in the environment. Probably will let them stay in there a little longer until the…
When you pick up a packet of seeds knowing what type of seeds you are growing is very important especially if you are planning on saving seeds from the fruits of your labor. Much like man’s best friend seeds come in many varieties, sometimes these occur with careful consideration of pedigree. others are brought together to complement both parents good (or bad) physical traits, and finally there are the…

Hi! I would like to encourage people to use non-chemical fertilizers and insecticides. Insecticides are poison- they kill the beneficial insects (and birds and get into the water supply…etc) that help the soil and plants stay healthy . I make a recipe from Howard Garrett’s book, which includes molasses, seaweed fertilizer, and garlic to deter unwanted insects.
Study shows (on a pro-organic site) that organic pesticides also kill the good bugs too! (ladybugs, bees, etc.)
