Picking orange tomatoes

My youngest daughter has been very excited waiting to pick our tomatoes. She picked a green one a couple weeks back which I informed her that she needs to wait until they turn red, guess I needed to be more clear about “dark” red, since yesterday when we went out to our garden the first thing I heard was “I picked a matoe” which she is proudly displaying below.

Oh, how cute! We had fried green tomatoes for dinner last night. One of my favorite kinds. You might have to learn to like them like that. 🙂 This year we grew one heirloom large yellow, and a Mr. Stripey which is smaller and red and yellow in blotches and stripes. I wasn’t sure if I would know when they were ready to pick. I identify with your little girl! Precious child! (You can tell I’m a grandma.)

How sweet. Just put it on the window sill it will turn red.

We put it on the window sill and did turn pretty red; unfortunately she loved the tomato a little too much and damaged it quite a bit. Fortunately, we have more coming in already red.
