Remote monitoring of computerized grow box

IMG_0333

My wife saw this wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer on clearance at Eddie Bauer and knew this was something I could use.  I simply put the wireless sensor in the computerized grow box and instant temperature monitoring where at a quick glance I can be sure my summer vegetables are toasty warm in the garage.  Sure, I could connect to the machine remotely, or look at the backup digital thermometer inside the box, or check the LCD panel on the box but this definitely gives some piece of mind at a quick glance.  This may be a somewhat lower tech solution, but it works.  At least until I get around implementing my other ideas and then I can actually know what the temperature is outside.

[As you can see from the indoor temperature we are not just cheap in the garden.]

I picked one of these up from Radio Shack for my indoor garden. When the temperature shot up, it allowed me to see that my carbon filter exhaust was clogged with cat hair. It’s a great tool.

I keep wanting to get one of these to monitor the temp in my cold frame, but for now I have an old thermometer just sitting in there. It’s FREE.

Red Icculus, I agree good investment and encourages laziness of actually having to go outside and everything.Chiot’s Run, I have done the same thing with cold boxes, well not free but think I may have spent $1-2 on the thermometer. I believe my wife picked this up for around $6 so not too bad an investment. I have looked at them before but even on sale for $20-30 and my cheapness overcame my nerdness.
